Place Cards & Escort Cards - What's the Difference?

Ok friends, pop quiz! What do you call the piece of stationery in the photo below?

If you said escort card, “DING, DING, DING!!”, you are correct! But I bet you didn’t. You called it a place card didn’t you? Well, there is a difference between the two, and lucky for you, I’m going to share my knowledge with you!

A wedding escort card is like the card in the photo above. It's the card you see at the enterance of most weddings with your name and table assignment. It escorts you to the table where you’ll be sitting.

A wedding place card is this.

It is the card you see at the table. Place cards are usually reserved for the most formal of weddings. It only has your name on it and is placed at the setting where you are to be seated.  It shows you the seat you will be taking or your PLACE at the table.

Makes sense, doesn’t it? So how come I have both words in my listings on Etsy? Well, for two reasons:
1. Most customers are going to search for “Place Cards” when they really mean “Escort Cards". If I want my listings to be found, I have to use what I think my customers will be searching for.
2. I sell both!! The cards can be used as a place card or an escort card.

So there you have it, now you’re a little bit smarter. At the very least you’ll have a little trivia knowledge the next time you’re at a wedding. Go share your new knowledge with the world!!
