When to Order Custom Wedding Invitations

I've been getting a lot of late/rush wedding invitation inquiries lately. I'm unable to help because I'm booked and I hate turning brides away. So to help those of you who are still in the pre-invitation ordering stages of planning - if you know you want custom invitations, book your invitation designer sooner than later.

What do I mean by that? Well, I know my schedule, and I know that custom invitations usually take me 4 months to design, print and assemble.(Remember custom invitations are usually assembled by hand, which takes hours upon hours.) Since traditional etiquette states that you should send your invitations out 6 - 8 weeks prior to your wedding date, you'll want to start designing 6 months prior to your big day. You should have your designer booked prior to that time to be sure you can fit into their schedule. Most invitation designers book well in advance, so waiting until 6 months prior to your date may be too late.

5 Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Colors

The colors you choose will set the style and tone for your big day. Choosing your wedding colors should be fun, but I know it can be a daunting task for some brides and grooms. Here are some tips to get you started:

1. What mood are you looking to convey? If you want to set a romantic tone, pick softer colors. Looking for something fun and more dramatic? Then you'll want to go bolder.

2. What time of year are you getting married? Spring tends to lean towards brighter, lighter colors while Fall leans towards darker colors. Below are Pantone's color trend forecasts for Spring & Fall 2011.

FALL 2011

3. Where is your reception? Choose colors that will compliment the room if possible.

4. What are you and your fiance's favorite colors? You can choose one color and then  use this Online Color Scheme Generator to find complimentary colors or a range of shades. (I'm warning you, it's a lot of fun and kind of addicting!)

5. Once you decide on your colors - use them in everything! Bridesmaid dresses, table linens, invitations (and all other stationery), favors, flowers...even your shoes!

I'd love to hear from you if you have any other helpful tips or want to share your wedding colors!
