Jill & Keith - Damask Elegance

Jill and Keith are the cutest couple!

Jill found me through her friend, Kelly, who I did beautiful (if I don't say so myself) wedding invitations for. I'm so glad she found me because I had a lot of fun working with her! She and Keith had their wedding at Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee, WI and  they wanted to incorporate the casino theme into their wedding stationery while keeping everything pretty and elegant. Jill, if you're reading this, I apologize again for my dog being so friendly with you when you picked up your envelopes. :)

Jill was sweet enough to send me some professional photos from her big day. I couldn't wait to share!!

First we designed the invitations. I like to start with the invitations, then once they are out the door, we move onto the rest of the stationery. I took these photos, obviously, they look nothing like the professional photos do.

I love the post card reply card. Not only are they unique, but they cut the expense back a bit by eliminating the cost of a reply envelope. Also the postage for a post card is less expensive.

Jill had such a great idea for her wedding programs...

Jill sent me photos of everyone in her wedding party and included their relationship to the bride and groom and interesting facts about each! It took a bit of arranging and rearranging to make it all fit - but we did it!!

I think my favorite friend fact was that one of her bridesmaids used to babysit for Lauri from The Real Housewives of OC! I'm so addicted to those Housewives.

The table cards were flat panel cards with names of different casino games printed on them.

Instead of the usual tented place card, Jill had another great idea. I printed the design on the envelopes and she and Keith printed the table assignments and  put a lottery ticket into each one for their wedding favor. I wonder if anyone hit it big?!

I love this shot!! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful photos! Best wishes Jill & Keith for a lifetime of love and laughter!!

Sara & Alexander - Purple Glam

When Sara contacted me for her wedding invitations for her October wedding, she had a lot of great ideas and was sure she wanted her guests to say "WOW!" when they opened their mailbox. We worked closely (along with her mom)to design this beautiful invitation just for her and her fiancee Alex. As you can see, the purple trend is still going strong! I love the deep purple paper paired with the gold damask.

5 Ways to Save on Custom Wedding Stationery

It's no secret that the economy isn't at it's best right now. But you still have a wedding to plan and you want custom designed stationery to set the tone for your big day without breaking thebank. So how do you do it?

Here are 5 great ideas:
  1. DIY- Doing the production work yourself can save you a good bit of money. Many stationery designers are now offering digital template designs that can be customized with your fonts and colors and sent to you in a PDF form for you to print at home or take to your local printer. Many stationers are also offering the option of designing and printing. Then you take care of the cutting and assembly. Click here to see our growing collection of digital designs.
  2. PostCard Reply Card vs Traditional Reply Card with Envelope - I've done a few of these and they always turn out super cute. Not only will you save money because you won't need an envelope, you'll also save on postage - post cards cost only $.28 to mail.
  3. Non-Square Invitations - Did you know that it costs approximately $.20 more to mail a square invitation then a rectangle invitation? It's true. Something to consider when mapping out your stationery budget. (You do have a stationery budget don't you?!)
  4. In-House Printing - Your going to save money if your stationer offers in-house printing. Most stationers who offer in-house printing have professional quality ink-jet and laser-jet printers which do a beautiful job.
  5. Forgo Seating Assignments - thus eliminating the need for place cards and table cards. This is a growing tradition which I would never recommend if I hadn't been a guest at our friends Nick &Irene's wedding recently. I will admit I was a little nervous about how it was going to pan out for them. Turns out, not having assigned seating created a fun, relaxed atmosphere and theirs was one of the best weddings I've ever attended.

I hope these tips help, please feel free to comment any other tips or ideas you may have up your sleeve.

Meghan & Frank: Beach Themed Wedding Stationery

One of my sweetest clients, Meghan, contacted me during the summer of 2009 for her wedding invitations & reception stationery. Her wedding was in August, 2010 and took place in Atlantic City, NJ. She wanted to incorporate her colors - pink & green (one of my fave color combos). Meghan also wanted to include starfish and beach grass, and she told me "We're hoping to incorporate a few monopoly things here and there but still keep that beachy feel." We started bouncing ideas around and here is the beautiful stationery suite we designed together!

We used a post card reply card for the invitations. They're a great way to cut back on the expense of a reply envelope AND postage. I also think they're adorable.

After the invitations were finished, we went on to design Meghan and Frank's reception stationery. Their tables were named after Monopoly streets. We used both the metallic green and metallic pink paper for the backing for the cards. So pretty! I know Meghan was planning on tying the place cards to little starfish. I bet they looked fabulous!

Meghan and Frank replaced the traditional guest book with the Guest Book Wine Bottles I blogged about awhile ago. Here is the card I designed and made for them.

Their programs were layered flat panels, printed on both sides. We also used both the green and pink paper to back the programs.

And last but not least, I made these pretty thank you cards to complete the set!

What's That M For Anyway?

I'm often asked "What does the "M" on the reply card mean?"

The "M" starts your name - "Mrs.", "Mr.", "Miss", or "Ms.". So if you invited me to your wedding  I would write "r. and Mrs. William Carr" on that line. Then I would check "accepts with pleasure" :). It's also considered socially acceptable to use "Name(s)" in place of "M". This is usually reserved for less formal weddings but I don't write rules like that in stone.

Hope that helps! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

5 Unique Wedding Favor Ideas

1. Potted Plant - These favors are so cute and they won't die like flowers will. You can kill two birds with one stone and have them stand as your place cards also. I'm sure I don't need to point this out, but they are eco-friendly. :)

2. Homemade Goodies - Gifts of love (& food) are always appreciated! Some brides even include the recipe, if Grandma is willing to share.
3. Pretty Boxes tied with Pretty Ribbon - Great for wrapping smaller favors, and they look so pretty lined up on a table, or at each table setting.

4. Plantable Wedding Favors - Guests can take these home and plant them in their garden. They'll think of you every time they see a bloom. (another eco-friendly idea)

5. Lottery Tickets - Slip scratch off lottery tickets into pretty envelopes. Be sure to include a coin so your guests can enjoy them right away!
